Parenting Tips for Digital Age

Parenting Tips for Digital Age

The world is changing at a faster pace than ever. We cannot lean on traditional parenting styles and methods to accomplish our parenting goal. Whether we like it or not, we are a part of this digital age and it would be in our best interest to adapt to it as seamlessly as possible. Attaching negativity to the mobiles, tablets and other gadgets won't get us anywhere. Here are a few ways in which you can do that:

1. Establish daily routine

Heard that over and again? But, it is the key to success. A daily schedule brings consistency and comfort to a child's life. It gives the child confidence, independence and establishes healthy habits early in life. likewise, set time limits for gadgets and screens. Install and use apps to monitor screentime if you have to, but remain firm on this.

2. Use screen time to your advantage

Gadgets can be one of your best parenting tools. Instead of fretting about the time kids spend on it, learn how to make the best of it. Screentime may not always be alone time. You can watch some family movie or educational content together. Tired of answering the whys and how's? Encourage your child to research on net. Give them new topics to Google to make learning fun.

3. Educate kids about online safety

Instead of banning social media completely, educate your kids. Talk to them about importance of privacy and possibility of predators. Tell them what kind of information is not safe to share.

4. Be a role model

We all know kids imitate our behaviour. So, if you expect a certain behaviour from your little ones, follow the rules yourself. There is no way you can bypass this rule.

5. Use media to bond with extended family

In times when families are becoming smaller, kids can bond with the extended family to fill in the emotional void. While face to face interaction is crucial and most preferable for bonding, it may not always possible. Video calls and watsapp family groups can help us in nurturing the bonds we want to cherish.

6.Take playtime seriously

"Play is the highest form of research" - Albert Einstein Don't use screen as a pacifier. Spend time together playing games or involve kids in household chores. Encourage kids to play outdoors. Give them activity kits to spark their creativity. STEM activities and worksheets can keep kids positively engaged.

If you want to arouse your kid's curiosity in different countries and their cultures, you can give them an awesome gift in the form of the Wanderquest travel boxes. It is one of the best gifts for kids of 6-12 years and a great way to get them away from the screen and into fun learning activities.
